For a remote inspection

It’s exactly how it sounds – your landlord won’t physically walk through your property. Instead, they’ll arrange a day and time with you and conduct the inspection using this app, which will be in the form a live video call.

You’ll receive notifications when the inspection is approaching so that no-one forgets.

When it’s time for the inspection to start, tap on the scheduled inspection within the app and select “Join”. You need to turn your camera around to be front facing. When both you and your landlord has joined the call, you’re good to go! Your landlord will use the app to guide you through the property and ask you to show them particular features in each room. They will have previously used Tenant Connect to create the property and add all the rooms and features, which will be looked at during the inspection.

Your landlord will use the app to assess whether features within each room are "Working", "Clean" and "Undamaged". As your landlord taps the Yes/No buttons against “Working”, “Clean” and “Undamaged” for the features in a room, it will mirror on your screen in real-time, giving you full transparency.

There are three types of inspections in Tenant Connect:
Moving In Inspection
Ongoing Inspection
Moving Out Inspection

At the end of a Moving In inspection, you’ll have 7 days to review the inspection within the app, make comments against features and upload photos. After your landlord has finalized the inspection, you’ll receive a PDF report for your records.

Note - During a remote inspection, there’s no need for you to take any photos or make comments while the inspection is taking place. Your landlord will take screenshots when desired as your video stream is coming through, and they'll make comments as they go. It’s only after the Moving In inspection has taken place – during your 7 days review window – that you can upload photos and comments against particular features.

At the end of an Ongoing Inspection or Moving Out Inspection, you will also receive a PDF report. If you have any comments or concerns following an ongoing or Moving Out inspection, you can discuss this offline with your landlord.

For an onsite inspection

Your landlord will use the Tenant Connect app when they come over to conduct an onsite inspection. As with remote inspections, you’ll have access to the Moving In inspection via the app after the inspection has finished and make comments or upload photos within 7 days of the inspection. This is your opportunity to say whether or not you agree with the landlord's assessment of the moving-in property condition.

And with all types of inspections, the app will send you a downloadable PDF report for your records after it’s been finalized.

why should you be excited about tenant connect?

Because we created it with you in mind. So, here are the wonderful things about Tenant Connect inspections:

  • As your landlord taps Yes/No for “Working”, “Clean” and “Undamaged” against each property feature, you’ll see on your screen exactly what they’re doing, ensuring transparency.
  • We also wanted to help protect your privacy with the sophisticated remote inspections. No more spreading germs or having strangers in your home, looking through your stuff.
  • We want to give you more control and transparency. So, after your Moving In inspection, you’ll have 7 days to review what your landlord has noted against each feature and insert comments for them to view. You can also upload photos to support your comments. You’ll receive email and notifications on your phone reminding you to do this before the end of the 7 days. For Ongoing and Moving Out inspections, you can still review the entire inspection within the app and contact your landlord offline if you have any concerns.
  • You’ll receive a downloadable PDF inspection report in your inbox almost immediately after the inspection is finalized.

In a nutshell, all you need to do:

Get access to Tenant Connect by following the prompts in your Tenant Account Created email sent to you by your landlord.

Give the app permission to access to all the photos on your phone (this is required for the app to function properly). We won’t ever access or use your photos. It’s just a technicality to ensure the inspection runs smoothly for both parties.

Receive requests for inspection times and dates. If it doesn’t work for you, call your landlord to suggest an alternative date.

Receive reminders (remember to allow push notifications for the app) so no one forgets an upcoming inspection.

Remember to have stable Wi-Fi or cellular data service and ensure your phone is sufficiently charged before the inspection starts.

Allow in-app notifications so that you are able to see whether there are any updates within the app for you to see.
